Nafplio Museum – Portrait

nafplio museum

Had a great chance to photography Xristo and Dimitra’s next day session in a sunny Nafplio in the early part of the day.
It is fall and the sun was coming in at an angle even at noon, and I had a chance to shoot a clear bacground of the Archeologial museum in Nafplio.
Great light and great background added to this image.
I was excited and fortunate, because that sun lasted only for that morning and it has been raining ever since.
A full blog post will follow on the weddings page with a set of images for their wedding and their day after. Just wanted to pop a quick photo out there to share my excitement.

Spetses wedding

spetses wedding

These are the first couple portraits I was able to process from Nick and Jay’s wedding in beautiful Spetses a few weeks ago.
Nick’s family and friends arrived from the UK and Jayiani’s  from Sri Lanka. It was a wonderful and colorful wedding!
Stay tuned for more to come.
The reception took place at Kaiki Beach Club.

wedding couple poses ideas

Some ideas I will offer is to have them do some of the following:

  • Not look at the camera. Direct their eyes if you must.
  • Touch. Multiple points of contact. Interaction
  • Emotions. Elicit them via music or talking. Laughter, love.
  • Movement. Walking, Dancing, Lift, Dip, Carry, Piggyback

Also here are a few articles I have collected with thoughts on posing the wedding couple.
I am adding the article links here so I can access them in the future too.
This is only a small sample that I will grow as time goes by hopefully.

Sigma 50mm 1.4

sigma 50mm 1.4

Portrait of the wife with the Sigma 50mm 1.4. This is shot at 1.4 wide open rendering the background into beautiful creamy bokeh.

Never have I loved a lens as much as the 50mm 1.4 by Sigma. This was recommended by Sam Hurd on his blog. Thanks for the tip Sam. I see what you meant.

Lighting in the afternoon which is falling behind my wife with a back light /rim effect completes the composition. There is some natural reflectors present bouncing light into her face from walls across the street, giving a nice fill to reduce the contrast ratio.

Happy Easter 2017

caravaggio thomas

Greek Orthodox and Catholic Easter is on the same day this year. Best wishes to all with one of my favorite paintings  by Caravaggio.

You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.

Playing with light

These 3 portraits of my kid were done with the concept of playing with light. Tools used to achieve the desired looks ranged from directs sun, off camera flash and flaring into an old russian vintage lens.

Photography means writing with light in Greek, so to master light is of the essence. This is a topic which  can cover a wide array of uses and is one that I will revisit again and again in adding to my portfolio here.

Enjoy!
